Darlington Bay, Tas, Australia

Darlington Bay is located at the northeastern tip of the island and is the site of Darlington the only settlement on the island and site of the national park ranger station. Beach MI 19 is a curving 750 m long west- to northwest-facing reflective beach that occupies the shore of the bay, with the sole island jetty extending 100 m seaward at the northern end. The beach has seagrass growing to within 50 m of the shore. It is backed by a low grassy foredune with Bernacchis Creek and small lagoon draining out at the northern end of the beach, next to the jetty. The Darlington settlement is located on the cleared grassy slopes that extend east of the beach. This area includes a camping area and ruins of earlier settlements, which date back to the 1850’s.
