Sines is a small coastal city located in the centre of the southwest coast of Portugal with beautiful beaches.
Sines was the historical birthplace of the navigator, Vasco da Gama and you can follow his trail, beginning in the Castle (where he spent his childhood and where he was supposed to be born), passes down the Mother Church (where he was ordained), stops in the Statue of Vasco Gama (testimony of the love of Sines for its most famous child) and ends in the Church of Nossa Senhora das Salas (that he rebuilt and by whose saint he had special devotion).
The Arts Centre of Sines offers four different facilities in a single building, designed by the prize-winning Atelier Aires Mateus: an Art Gallery, the new Municipal Library, an Auditorium and the Historical Municipal Archives. Porto Covo, situated between the sea and the plains, is a picturesque village surrounded by some of the most beautiful and best-preserved beaches in Portugal.
