Roccella Ionica (also known as Roccella Jonica or simply as Roccella) is a town located on the Ionian Sea in Calabria, southern Italy.
Possibly built on the site of the ancient Greek settlement of Amphissa, Roccella Ionica is an important coastal town in Locri which lies in the shadow of the ruins of its magnificent castle which overlooks the entire town.
The new zone of Roccella Ionica was developed in the plains below the castle, that has become a well-known seaside resort. It is a seafaring centre with a modern vessel marina with approximately 500 berths and is also an important railway junction.
During the summer numerous international manifestations are held, such as the film festival and the jazz festival "Mediterranean Sounds", as well as various local festivals.
