St Cyr sur Mer

Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer is a commune in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur Region in south-eastern France. It neighbours La Ciotat to the west, Bandol to the east and La Cadiere-d'Azur to the north.

In addition to Saint-Cyr itself, the commune includes the villages of Les Lecques, a port and beach resort, and La Madrague, a small port.

The town square of Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer contains a replica of the Statue of Liberty donated by Frederic Bartholdi, sculptor of the original.

Agriculture and tourism are important industries in the area.

Fruit, vegetables, olives and wine are produced in the commune and both Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer and Les Lecques have markets.

Tourist attractions include the sandy beach at Les Lecques, the coastal footpaths and the Musee de Tauroentum, a museum which displays artifacts from the Roman site of Tauroentum.

While cruises are available year round the main season is from March to October to take advantage of the longer days and warmer weather. Cruises depart from most of the major ports but the key embarkation ports include Barcelona, Monte Carlo, Rome (Civitavecchia), Venice, Athens and Istanbul. Many cruises also start and finish in the UK with Southampton being the major port. Weather during the cruise season is warm to hot and the days are long and generally sunny. Most rain in the region falls in the winter months.
