Iskenderun is a city and district in the province of Hatay on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. It is a busy commercial centre and an important Turkish port in the Mediterranean region. Once called Alexandretta, it was founded by Alexander the Great after his victory over the Persians. Iskenderun is located on the shores of a deep bay and at the foot of the Amanos Mountains.
Iskenderun is a modern city with good hotels, restaurants and cafes among the palm trees by the Mediterranean sea. The cuisine of Iskenderun is delicious, especially "Kunefe", a desert with cheese in it and eaten hot. The prawns are also excellent eating.
