Gaeta, Italy

Gaeta is a city and commune in the province of Latina, in Lazio, central Italy. Set on a promontory stretching towards the Gulf of Gaeta, it is 120 km from Rome and 80 km from Naples. The town has played a prominent part in military history; its fortifications dating back to Roman times. Today however, Gaeta is a fishing and oil seaport, and a renowned tourist resort.

Gaeta offers excellent hotels, a fine tourist port, sport facilities, and a number of golden sandy beaches located on the western coast. These beaches are situated between the green vegetation of the hills which slope to the rocks and the crystal-clear blue sea.

The town stretches through typical medieval lanes and streets, a wide castle, Roman monuments, historical churches. Popular Serapo beach is situated in the town centre between Mt. Orlando and Fontania.

Port Location – The port of Gaeta is positioned on west side of Bay of Gaeta, at the northern end of the Gulf of Gaeta.

Travel Links – You can get to Gaeta by taking any train that stops in Formia. Almost all of the trains that run between Naples and Rome will stop there. When you get off in Formia, walk to the front of the train station, and there should be one or two buses out front.
