Auckland, New Zealand
Alken is a municipality in the district of Mayen-Koblenz in Rhineland-Palatinate, western Germany. Dominated by a majestic castle,
Alken is one of the Moselle's oldest villages, tracing its roots to Celtic and Roman times. It's also one of the valley's prettiest, with geranium-filled window boxes emblazoning half-timbered houses, and vestiges of medieval walls. Its twin town, Kattenes, is across the river.
Above the village on a hill spur stand the ruins of Thurant Castle. A typical wine village with a long history.
Things to do
Impressive is the twin-towered Thurant Castle;
